Pilherodius pileatus

DISTRIBUTION:

The Capped Heron (Pilherodius pileatus) is natural to the Americas. Its distribution extends from the Darien in Panama to the Amazon Basin in Bolivia, Paraguay and southern Brazil.


HABITAT:

It is normally found in the proximity of water where the vegetation is dense.


REPRODUCTION:

The nest is done on the trees. The clutch is two to four eggs.


FOOD:

The diet consists of fish, frogs and insects.


DESCRIPTION:

In length reaches from 56 to 59 cm.


OTHER NAMES:

The Capped Heron in Spanish is called “Garciola”.
